Acquisition of PeopleSoft

After a hostile 18-month takeover battle, Oracle successfully acquired rival enterprise software giant PeopleSoft for approximately $10.3 billion.

Significance

This massive acquisition, followed by Siebel Systems in 2005, created an unprecedented portfolio of enterprise applications for Oracle, but also exacerbated the challenge of integrating disparate product lines, directly catalyzing the need for Project Fusion.
