Alibaba Cloud, then known as Aliyun, was officially established, marking the beginning of Alibaba's formal commitment to building its own cloud computing infrastructure.

Significance

This laid the institutional foundation for the Apsara project and the eventual development and commercialization of ApsaraDB. It formalized Dr. Jian Wang's vision within the company structure.
