Alibaba Group officially established Alibaba Cloud, an independent entity aimed at building a world-class public cloud infrastructure.

Significance

This laid the organizational foundation for all future Alibaba Cloud services, including RDS, by committing to developing cloud computing capabilities internally and eventually offering them to the public.
