Alibaba's Internal ODPS (MaxCompute) Development Begins

Facing immense data processing challenges from its rapidly growing e-commerce platforms (Taobao, Tmall), Alibaba Group initiated the development of its own distributed big data computing platform, then known as ODPS (Open Data Processing Service).

Significance

This internal project laid the foundational compute engine that would eventually power DataWorks and Alibaba Cloud's entire big data ecosystem.
