Amazon Aurora Announced (Preview)

AWS CTO Werner Vogels announced the preview of Amazon Aurora, a new MySQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud, featuring a decoupled storage architecture.

Significance

This was the foundational technology that Aurora Global Database would later leverage. Its innovative storage layer, designed for high performance and durability, made efficient global replication feasible.
