Amazon Aurora Initial Release

AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora (MySQL compatible), a new cloud-native relational database designed from scratch for high performance and availability.

Significance

This was the foundational technology that Global Database built upon. Aurora's unique storage architecture made efficient cross-region replication technically feasible in a way traditional databases struggled with.
