Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible) General Availability

AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora, a MySQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud, offering five times the performance of standard MySQL at a tenth of the cost of commercial databases.

Significance

This laid the foundational architecture (decoupled storage and compute) that made Aurora Global Database technically feasible. It proved AWS could innovate significantly in the relational database space.
