Amazon Aurora Preview Announcement

AWS announced Amazon Aurora, a new MySQL-compatible relational database engine designed for the cloud, offering five times the performance of standard MySQL.

Significance

This laid the foundational architecture – the decoupled storage and compute, and the distributed log – which was critical for the later development of Aurora Global Database.
