Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White founded Android Inc. with the intention of developing 'smarter mobile devices that are more aware of its owner's location and preferences.'

Significance

This event laid the very foundation for the Android operating system, and by extension, the need for a custom application runtime and bytecode format like DEX.
