Android Inc. Founded

Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White establish Android Inc. with the initial goal of developing smarter mobile devices, eventually pivoting to a mobile operating system.

Significance

This marked the very beginning of the Android project, laying the conceptual groundwork for an open-source mobile platform that would eventually give rise to the Android SDK.
