Android Support Library Introduction
Google introduced the Android Support Library, a set of libraries providing backward-compatible versions of newer Android APIs and additional features to help bridge the fragmentation gap across different Android versions.
Significance
This was Google's pioneering effort to provide modern APIs to older devices and manage the pervasive fragmentation, establishing a precedent for modular library distribution that would later evolve into Jetpack.
