Apache Lucene Creation

Doug Cutting releases the first version of Apache Lucene, a powerful, Java-based text search engine library, which would later form the core of Solr.

Significance

Lucene provided the foundational capabilities for Solr, handling the complex algorithms of text indexing and searching. Without Lucene, Solr would not exist in its current form.
