AWS Aurora General Availability

AWS launched Amazon Aurora, a MySQL-compatible relational database with commercial database performance and availability at open source prices. This foundational service laid the groundwork for future innovations like Global Database.

Significance

Aurora's novel architecture, separating compute and storage and using a distributed, fault-tolerant log-based storage system, was the critical prerequisite for developing Aurora Global Database.
