Amazon Aurora, a MySQL-compatible relational database, was launched during the re:Invent keynote. It boasted five times the performance of standard MySQL and enhanced durability.

Significance

This event laid the fundamental architectural groundwork for Aurora Global Database by introducing Aurora's unique cloud-native, distributed storage system, which was later extended for global replication.
