AWS Aurora General Availability

AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora (for MySQL compatibility), a new relational database engine designed for the cloud, offering five times the performance of standard MySQL.

Significance

This was the foundational technology upon which Aurora Global Database would later be built. Its innovative architecture, decoupling compute from a distributed, fault-tolerant storage layer, made multi-region capabilities feasible.
