AWS Aurora General Availability

AWS announced the General Availability of Amazon Aurora, a MySQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud, boasting five times the performance of standard MySQL.

Significance

Aurora's launch laid the critical architectural foundation (decoupled compute and storage, distributed log-based storage system) upon which Global Database would later be built. It proved the viability of a new class of cloud-native databases.
