AWS Direct Connect Launch

Amazon Web Services announces its Direct Connect service, offering customers dedicated 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps network connections from their premises to AWS regions.

Significance

This was the first major commercial offering of a dedicated, private cloud interconnect service from a leading hyperscale cloud provider, establishing a new paradigm for enterprise cloud adoption and hybrid architectures.
