AWS Global Accelerator Launch

AWS Global Accelerator was officially announced during Peter DeSantis' keynote at re:Invent 2018. It promised to improve the availability and performance of applications with static IP addresses by routing traffic over AWS's global network.

Significance

This marked the first time AWS offered a managed service that leveraged its own global network backbone for application acceleration, shifting the burden of network optimization from customers to AWS and providing a crucial building block for truly global, high-performance applications.
