Azure Data Lake Store (Gen1) Public Preview

Microsoft announced the public preview of Azure Data Lake Store, a hyper-scale repository for big data analytics workloads, promising unlimited scale and integration with Azure HDInsight and Data Lake Analytics.

Significance

This marked Microsoft's initial dedicated entry into the cloud data lake space with a purpose-built, HDFS-compatible file system, separate from standard Azure Blob Storage.
