Brendan Eich creates Mocha (JavaScript)

Brendan Eich, under a tight deadline, creates the first prototype of JavaScript (then called Mocha, later LiveScript) in ten days. It was designed to be a lightweight scripting language for the Netscape Navigator browser.

Significance

This marked the birth of the language that would become ubiquitous, providing client-side interactivity to the web.
