Docker Release

Solomon Hykes and his team at dotCloud Inc. (later Docker Inc.) publicly released Docker, an open-source project that automated the deployment of applications inside Linux containers.

Significance

Docker single-handedly popularized container technology, making it accessible and easy to use, and creating the perfect 'problem' for Kubernetes to solve: how to orchestrate these new, ubiquitous containers at scale.
