EJB 1.0 (Entity Beans) Release

Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 1.0 introduced Entity Beans, an early, official attempt by Sun Microsystems to provide object-relational mapping capabilities within the J2EE specification.

Significance

Entity Beans highlighted the critical need for ORM but were notoriously complex, heavyweight, and difficult to use, inadvertently fueling the demand for simpler, more flexible alternatives.
