EJB 1.0 Release

Sun Microsystems releases Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 1.0, attempting to standardize component-based enterprise development in Java, including a form of container-managed persistence (CMP) through Entity Beans.

Significance

While an early attempt to abstract persistence, EJB 1.0's CMP was famously complex and rigid, highlighting the need for more flexible ORM solutions and inadvertently fueling their independent development.
