Envoy Proxy Open-Sourced

Lyft's Matt Klein publicly released Envoy Proxy, a high-performance C++ distributed proxy, as open source. It was designed from the ground up for microservices.

Significance

Envoy became the foundational 'data plane' for Istio, providing the extensible, observable, and performant proxy that enabled Istio's control plane to manage traffic and enforce policies efficiently.
