Alibaba Group officially established Alibaba Cloud Computing, initially to support its own massive e-commerce operations.

Significance

This event laid the fundamental infrastructure upon which all future Alibaba Cloud services, including AI, would be built. Without this underlying cloud platform, a comprehensive AI service would have been impossible.
