An industry consortium formed by major database vendors like Oracle, Sybase, and IBM, among others, to develop standards for database interoperability, including a Call-Level Interface (CLI) for SQL.

Significance

This group laid foundational work for a standardized API, influencing ODBC's design and helping to build a consensus for a common interface, even if Microsoft later diverged with its own implementation.
