Founding of 10gen

Dwight Merriman, Eliot Horowitz, and Kevin Ryan founded 10gen with the initial goal of building a platform-as-a-service (PaaS). It was within this context that the need for a new database arose.

Significance

This was the foundational step, creating the environment and team that would ultimately conceive and develop MongoDB.
