Founding of 10gen

Dwight Merriman, Eliot Horowitz, and Kevin Ryan founded 10gen (the original name for MongoDB Inc.) with the initial goal of building a cloud platform as a service (PaaS).

Significance

This event marked the genesis of the company that would eventually create MongoDB, albeit not immediately as a database company, but as a cloud infrastructure provider.
