Free Pascal Compiler (FPC) Project Initiated
Florian Klämpfl started developing the Free Pascal Compiler (FPC) as a 32-bit Pascal compiler, initially compatible with Borland Pascal 7.0. This foundational work was crucial as Lazarus is entirely dependent on FPC.
Significance
FPC provided the robust, open-source compiler engine that Lazarus would later leverage, making the entire project possible.
