FreeBSD Jails Introduced
Jails provided an early form of operating-system-level virtualization in FreeBSD, allowing system administrators to partition a computer system into several independent mini-systems, or 'jails.'
Significance
This marked one of the earliest widely adopted implementations of process isolation and resource partitioning, demonstrating the viability of lightweight virtualization before Linux containers existed.
