Google's Internal Stubby RPC Development
Google began developing Stubby, its internal Remote Procedure Call system, to efficiently connect its rapidly growing suite of distributed services. This proprietary system formed the conceptual and technical bedrock for what would become gRPC.
Significance
Stubby proved the viability and scalability of a high-performance, strongly-typed RPC system for massive, distributed environments, paving the way for gRPC's public release.
