Ingres Project Initiated

Michael Stonebraker, Eugene Wong, and others began the Ingres project, one of the earliest relational database systems, which heavily influenced subsequent commercial products and research.

Significance

This project established Stonebraker's reputation in database research and served as a direct precursor, both technically and philosophically, to POSTGRES.
