Initial EJB Specification Release

Sun Microsystems releases Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 1.0, an early attempt to simplify enterprise component development, including container-managed persistence (CMP) for Java objects. While ambitious, it was complex and often cumbersome.

Significance

EJB's CMP showcased the demand for object-relational mapping but highlighted the challenges in its implementation, leaving room for more flexible, developer-friendly alternatives like Hibernate.
