Initial Internal Development

Michael 'Monty' Widenius begins developing the first version of MySQL, evolving from an earlier project called UniSQL and his experience with mSQL, which he found too limiting.

Significance

This marked the true beginning of the MySQL project, born out of a practical need for a more capable and efficient database engine for TcX's own applications.
