Integrated Data Store (IDS) Developed
Charles Bachman at General Electric developed IDS, one of the first generalized database management systems. It implemented a network data model, allowing more complex data relationships than simple file systems.
Significance
IDS was a pioneering step towards abstracting data from applications, demonstrating the potential for centralized data management and inspiring the CODASYL network model standards.
