Integrated Data Store (IDS) Development
Charles Bachman at General Electric develops IDS, one of the first commercially available database management systems. It was a network model database, designed to overcome the limitations of sequential file processing for complex data relationships.
Significance
IDS was a landmark achievement, demonstrating the viability of managing interconnected data and providing a blueprint for subsequent network database systems. It earned Bachman the Turing Award.
