Integrated Data Store (IDS) Development Begins
Led by Charles Bachman, General Electric began developing IDS, one of the first generalized database systems based on the network model. It was designed to handle complex manufacturing data.
Significance
IDS was a pioneering effort in creating a system that could manage data relationships beyond simple sequential files, making it a foundational precursor to modern DBMS. Its network model later influenced the CODASYL standard.
