Integrated Data Store (IDS) Introduction
Developed by Charles Bachman at GE, IDS was one of the first commercially available Database Management Systems, introducing the network model and allowing multiple applications to access a common pool of data.
Significance
IDS was a pioneering step away from simple file systems, demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of a centralized, structured approach to data management, earning Bachman a Turing Award.
