Internal 'Carrot' Project Begins

Mike Percy and Todd Lipcon, alongside a small team at Cloudera, began conceptualizing and prototyping a new distributed storage engine internally to address the hybrid analytical/transactional workload gap.

Significance

This marked the genesis of Kudu, an ambitious project to build a storage layer from scratch rather than adapting existing Hadoop components.
