Internal Development Begins (Project Carbon)

Cloudera's engineers, notably Todd Lipcon and Mike Percy, began internal development on a new distributed storage engine aimed at bridging the gap between fast analytics and fast updates in the Hadoop ecosystem. It was internally codenamed 'Carbon'.

Significance

This marked the birth of Kudu, addressing a critical pain point identified by Cloudera's customers and engineers.
