Donald Bitzer, Gene Slottow, and Robert Johnson invent the Plasma Display Panel, a gas-discharge display technology offering flicker-free, robust, and inherently digital displays, initially for the PLATO system.
Significance
This marked the first successful digital flat panel display, demonstrating a viable alternative to CRTs and proving the concept of a truly flat screen.
