Jeff Bezos's Internal API Mandate
Jeff Bezos famously issued a mandate that all teams at Amazon must expose their data and functionality through service interfaces, and communicate with each other only via these interfaces.
Significance
This mandate forced Amazon to build a highly modular, service-oriented architecture, which became the blueprint and proving ground for AWS. It was the internal precursor to external cloud services.
