jQuery 1.0 Release

John Resig released jQuery, a fast, small, and feature-rich JavaScript library that made client-side scripting much easier, particularly DOM manipulation and AJAX calls.

Significance

jQuery normalized and simplified JavaScript development, becoming a de facto standard for web interaction and laying the groundwork for more complex client-side applications that would eventually demand frameworks.
