Google publicly released Kubernetes, an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications, based on their internal Borg system.

Significance

This laid the foundational technology for Google Cloud Anthos, providing the orchestration layer that would eventually extend across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
