Kudu Project Inception at Cloudera

Driven by the need to bridge the gap between fast analytics and fast data mutations in the Hadoop ecosystem, Cloudera engineers, notably Mike Percy and Todd Lipcon, began work on a new storage engine. This internal project aimed to combine the benefits of columnar storage with quick random access.
