Launch of Amazon EC2 & S3

Amazon Web Services launched its foundational compute (EC2) and storage (S3) services, establishing the core building blocks for cloud infrastructure and paving the way for managed services like RDS.

Significance

These services laid the essential groundwork for AWS's cloud ecosystem, without which RDS could not exist. They demonstrated the demand for on-demand infrastructure and Amazon's capability to deliver it.
