Launch of Elastic Load Balancing (Classic Load Balancer)

AWS introduced Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) to distribute incoming application traffic across multiple EC2 instances, primarily operating at Layer 4 (TCP/SSL).

Significance

Established the foundational load balancing service for AWS, but its Layer 4 limitations eventually highlighted the need for more advanced, application-aware routing.
