Logstash Forwarder's Limitations Become Apparent

Prior to Filebeat, Logstash Forwarder (originally called Lumberjack) was the go-to lightweight log shipper for the ELK Stack. However, its Ruby implementation led to resource inefficiencies and it lacked critical features for robust, at-scale log collection.

Significance

The challenges with Logstash Forwarder directly motivated the creation of a more performant and reliable alternative, paving the way for the Beats project.
