MIT CTSS MAILBOX program

A program developed for the Compatible Time-Sharing System (CTSS) that allowed users on the same mainframe to send messages to each other's directories.

Significance

This was an early precursor to email, demonstrating the utility of electronic messaging, albeit confined to a single machine. It established the conceptual framework for digital mailboxes.
