OLE 1.0 Release

Microsoft releases Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) 1.0 as part of Windows 3.0. It provided basic functionality for embedding and linking static data in compound documents.

Significance

OLE 1.0 was the nascent seed for Microsoft's component vision, demonstrating the critical need for inter-application communication, albeit in a limited and somewhat clunky form, paving the way for COM.
